Digital Product Passport Rollout

Prepare apparel product data, supply-chain traceability and consumer access for the EU Digital Product Passport.

By Sanjeewa Dehiwalage · Reviewed

Target outcome

Products in scope carry a compliant DPP with governed data, verified suppliers and a stable consumer-facing endpoint.

Steps

  1. 1.Confirm regulatory scope

Identify products in scope under EU ESPR delegated acts and target go-live dates.

  2. 2.Data model definition

Map required DPP attributes to internal PLM/ERP fields; identify gaps.

  3. 3.Supplier onboarding

Collect verified traceability from tier-1 upstream; define evidence and audit approach.

  4. 4.Carrier and endpoint

Choose a data carrier (for example QR or NFC) and stand up a persistent consumer endpoint.

  5. 5.Governance and updates

Assign ownership for lifecycle updates, corrections and retention.

Risks to watch

  • Unverified supplier claims failing audits
  • Broken consumer endpoints after product end-of-life
  • Scope creep beyond regulated attributes

Decision guidance

Treat the steps above as a sequenced checklist, not a simultaneous programme. Each step should have a named owner, an evidence artefact and an explicit gate before the next step begins. Re-baseline the target outcome if scope or regulatory requirements change mid-programme.
