Finishing and packing defect reduction

Problem and CTQ

Stains, pressing marks, loose threads, label or tag errors, wrong assortment, folding, metal detection and carton mistakes all threaten shipment. Attack the defect at source; use audit as a safety net.

DMAIC path

  • Pareto by defect, process, style and shift.
  • Map handoffs and information flow; validate detection reliability.
  • Trace defect origin versus detection point.

Improvement choices

  • Point-of-source prevention and station 5S.
  • Templates/fixtures, approved visual standards and scan-based assortment.

A finishing floor logs 0.6% wrong-assortment cartons. Scan-verified pick lists and a mandatory pack-station line-clearance drive it to 0.05% inside a month.
