← Back to moduleBack to academy

Learning objectives

  • Match free tools to analytical questions.
  • Protect reproducibility with raw data and documented formulas.
  • Recognize the limits of any software output.

Method matters more than brand

Browser calculators, spreadsheets and open-source statistical packages can perform descriptive analysis, capability, tests, regression and charts. Correct assumptions and interpretation matter more than the brand on the screen.

Garment-factory example

A measurement-capability study can be calculated in a shared spreadsheet with protected formulas and independently checked using sample data — no paid licence required.

Method

  1. Define the analytical question first.
  2. Choose the simplest valid tool.
  3. Preserve raw data and document formulas and versions.
  4. Cross-check with a known example.

Common mistakes

  • Trusting software output without checking assumptions.
  • Pasting confidential buyer data into public online services.
