Project handover and closure

← Back to moduleBack to academy

Learning objectives

  • Explain the purpose of project handover and closure in a garment-factory improvement project.
  • Apply the described method to a representative shop-floor situation.
  • Recognize the common mistakes and how to avoid them.

Concept

Handover transfers the improved process, controls, knowledge, risks, records, and decision rights from project team to process owners.

Handover pack includes charter/result, future map, SOP/standard work, control plan, MSA/capability, training, FMEA, open risks, benefits, dashboard, reaction plan, maintenance, data access, and change log.

The process owner must accept authority, capability, and accountability — not only receive documents.

Garment-factory example

A wash-recipe project transfers locked recipes, chemical controls, test frequency, alarm response, ownership, training, and supplier follow-up.

Method

  1. Readiness checklist.
  2. Owner walk-through.
  3. Demonstrate controls live.
  4. Close or assign open actions.
  5. Approve documents.
  6. Archive evidence.
  7. Recognize the team.

Common mistakes

  • Closing when only the Black Belt can run the reports.
  • Leaving temporary pilot controls in place.
