Core idea

Respect for people means challenging, developing, listening to and enabling the people who do the work; combined with continuous improvement it forms the two pillars of Lean culture.

Method

Build psychological safety and stop-and-fix authority. Train, coach and involve operators in problem solving. Do not confuse respect with only being polite while ignoring capability development.

Garment-factory example

Supervisors and engineers coach sewing operators to observe their own work, raise abnormalities safely, propose improvements and see them acted on, rather than only receiving instructions.
